England, Denmark advance to semifinals of Euro 2020

Harry Kane scored twice and England overwhelme­d Ukraine 4-0 Saturday in Rome to reach the European Championsh­ip semifinals.

It was the only match of Euro 2020 that England had to play away from Wembley Stadium and it was the team’s most dominant performanc­e of the tournament.

“I’ve said it all along it’s all about peaking for the right time,” Kane said.

“We are on the right track.”

Jordan Henderson also scored as England kept a clean sheet for the fifth straight match of the competitio­n.

It marked the first time that England scored four goals in the knockout stage of a major tournament since beating West Germany 4-2 in the 1966 World Cup final.

England now goes back to London to face Denmark on Wednesday.

Denmark, which has developed into a surprise contender after their tournament began with midfielder Christian Eriksen suffering cardiac arrest on the field, advanced to the Euro 2020 semifinals on Saturday by beating the Czech Republic 2-1.

Jens Stryger sent an outswingin­g corner in the fifth minute to Thomas Delaney, standing in space by the penalty spot. Delaney’s bouncing header went in past the outstretch­ed hand of goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik.

GUADELOUPE DOMINATES BAHAMAS

Guadeloupe dominated the entire match and beat the Bahamas 2-0 in their Gold Cup preliminar­y round game Saturday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The goals were scored by Matthias Phaeton in the 61st minute and Raphael Mirval in the 67th minute. Guadeloupe outshot the Bahamas 12-3. With the victory, Guadeloupe advanced to a Tuesday match against the winner of the GuatemalaG­uyana game.

The winners of Tuesday’s matches earn the final spots in the Gold Cup field.

“We could have played much better, truth be told,” said Guadeloupe coach Jocelyn Angloma. “Maybe we took it too lightly early. It was also very hot. But overall I am satisfied. We will need to raise the level on Tuesday. It means a lot for us to try to make the Gold Cup field because we have not been there since 2011. For the young players, it is very important. This is a beautiful tournament.”

A NFL: The Dallas Cowboys will be featured for the third time in the 20th anniversar­y season of “Hard Knocks.” HBO and NFL Films announced Friday that the five-episode season will debut on Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. Eastern. The Cowboys are the first team to make three appearance­s on the training camp documentar­y series. The other times were in 2002 and 2008.

A College basketball: Jalen Wilson withdrew from the NBA Draft and will return to Kansas for his sophomore season. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Wilson averaged 11.8 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds last season, helping the Jayhawks reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A Cycling: World champion Anna van der Breggen rode away from the rest of the field in the Giro d’Italia Donne at Prato, Italy, winning the first summit finish of the marquee women’s stage race to take the overall lead.
