WEDNESDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

8 PM $ Big Brother Big risks can pay off in big rewards for one player — in the form of a $500,000 grand prize — as host Julie Chen Moonves welcomes a new gaggle of Houseguests to tonight’s live 90-minute Season 23 premiere. They’ll move into a newly redesigned (yes, again) high-tech residence outfitted with 94 HD cameras and more than 113 microphones that capture their every move, every conspiratorial whisper, 24 hours a day. The show airs Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through the summer. 8 PM G Kung Fu Nicky and Henry (Olivia Liang, Eddie Liu) follow a lead to a K-pop concert in Las Vegas, which puts them on a collision course with Zhilan and Kerwin (guest stars Yvonne Chapman and Ludi Lin). Meanwhile, Jin and Mei-Li (Tzi Ma, Kheng Hua Tan) reach a big decision concerning the restaurant. Shannon Dang, Jon Prasida and Vanessa Kai also star in the new episode “Attachment.” 8 PM ( HBO) MOVIE Shiva Baby Although the COVID-19 pandemic torpedoed its theatrical release schedule, writer-director Emma Seligman nonetheless received general acclaim for her character-driven 2020 comedy, which she adapted from an earlier short film. The U.S.-Canadian co-production stars Rachel Sennott (“Call Your Mother”) as Danielle, an aimless bisexual Jewish college senior, whose rudderless personal life is a source of anguish for her parents (Fred Melamed, Polly Draper). The action unfolds in real time during a shiva at a relative’s house. Molly Gordon, Danny Deferrari, Dianna Agron and Jackie Hoffman also star. 9 PM ( Dr. Pimple Popper Dr. TLC) Sandra Lee wraps up her fifth season with a finale that bears the not-forthe-squeamish title “A Spoonful of Cyst.” Her clients include Stephen, whose large, bulbous nose gets him unwanted attention from strangers, so he hopes Dr. Lee can help. Another patient, Veronica, wants to be free of secrets, including a large bump on her butt that she struggles to keep hidden. Elsewhere, Marty has a large, 30-yearold growth on his shoulder that he is ready to remove himself if Dr. Lee cannot help. 9:30 PM $ Love Island Host Arielle Vandenberg returns to keep an eye on the amorous action as this reality competition series returns for Season 3, this time in the Hawaiian Islands, after COVID-19 precautions forced a Season 2 shift of location to Las Vegas. The matchmaking begins as a bevy of single “Islanders” come together in a sun-drenched, romance-ready villa, eager for a summer of dating and, ultimately, relationships. Did we mention there’s also a $100,000 payout for someone at the end? Matthew Hoffman also is back with more sassy off-camera narration. 10 PM ( Kitchen Crash Host FOOD) Jeff Mauro welcomes three chefs to Paramus, N.J., where the trio begs homeowners to allow them to “shop” in their home fridges and share some of the contents to use as ingredients in the new episode “Street Fare in New Jersey.” With the culinary goods finally in hand, the chefs are challenged by Mauro to use the ingredients in food they’d be likely to find at a festival, including something stuffed and tasty but portable dishes that could be sold at a street fair. 10 PM ( Younger After six seasons TVL) on TV Land, this hit sitcom made a shift to the streaming platform Paramount Plus for its seventh and final season. For longtime fans who didn’t subscribe to that service, though, Season 7 now makes its linear broadcast debut with two back-to-back episodes on its original cable home. The action picks up with Liza (Sutton Foster) considering Charles’ (Peter Hermann) proposal, as Diana (Miriam Shor) embarks on her honeymoon. Elsewhere, Kelsey (Hilary Duff) starts doubting herself after hitting some personal and professional speed bumps.
