Fires, Newsom to get Biden’s attention
President Joe Biden will make his first visit to California as president on Monday with a stop in Sacramento to survey wildfire damage and then in Long Beach to give a boost to Gov. Gavin Newsom a day ahead of the recall election.
Biden’s western trip also includes a stop in Idaho, where he will visit the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. In addition to wildfires, Biden is likely to address the pandemic as the state grapples with one of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in the country.
Biden will visit Denver on Tuesday to promote his infrastructure agenda. Congress hopes to move forward with the package later this month.
More details are expected this week in the House of Representatives on a separate $3.5 trillion budget bill that would provide new funding for child care, Medicare, climate change and other Biden administration priorities.
