SATURDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

8 PM ( AP) The Zoo: San Diego The staff at the Rhino Rescue Center turns out to welcome Arthur, a southern white rhino calf, in the new episode “Koala Boys.” Elsewhere, some koala joeys make a big move, while a young nyala must be hand-raised with personalized care before returning to its herd. Meanwhile, Connor the Malaysian tiger needs treatment for the strange nosebleeds that are a chronic problem for him.

8 PM ( BRV) MOVIE The Spy Who Dumped Me In this 2018 action comedy from director and co-writer Susanna Fogel, Mila Kunis stars as Audrey Stockman, who is struggling to process the shock of being dumped by her boyfriend (Justin Theroux), on her birthday when she finds herself forced into a van by two strange men (Sam Heughan, Hasan Minhaj). They drop a major bombshell on Audrey — her ex is actually a CIA agent being pursued by some very bad men — sending her and her BFF Morgan (Kate McKinnon) on a frantic race for their lives.

8 PM ( HGTV) Outgrown In the new episode “Deploying a Renovation,” hosts Luke Caldwell and Clint Robertson try to help a family that includes two growing boys, whose sports equipment and apparently bottomless collection of toys is eating up space, even while Dad is away on a military tour of duty. Clint and Luke come to the rescue with some imaginative remodeling ideas to find more space where none currently exists in the residence.

8 PM ( LIFE) MOVIE Deadly Debutante With her community’s elite annual Debutante Ball quickly approaching, steel-willed beauty Anna is determined to be named Belle of the Ball at the upper-crust event, and she has all the family connections to do it. She’s unhappy, then, by the arrival of an upstart named Sophia, who is, well, unsuitable in many respects, but her mother recently died — and the sympathy vote just may swing things Sophia’s way. Angelina Boris, Natalia De Mendoza, Angela Baumgardner, Revell Carpenter and Christina Simone Patterson star.

8 PM ( HBO) MOVIE Promising Young Woman Best known to many for her series roles in “Call the Midwife” and “The Crown” (playing Camilla Parker-Bowles in the latter), Emerald Fennell made a formidable feature directorial debut with this 2020 black-comedy thriller, earning an Oscar nod in that capacity and taking the award itself for her screenplay. Carey Mulligan scored a best actress nomination (along with several other accolades) for her fearless performance as a 30-year-old medical school dropout who embarks on a vigilante crusade against men who victimize women. Bo Burnham, Jennifer Coolidge and Alison Brie co-star. 8:15 PM ( TBS) MOVIE Thor: Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi earned almost universal critical praise with this 2017 Marvel superhero action blockbuster, chiefly for the way he and his cast refused to take themselves too seriously, delivering one of the most satisfying entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie series. The story finds Thor (selfeffacing hero Chris Hemsworth) trying to keep his terrifying older sister Hela (Cate Blanchett), the goddess of death, from destroying Asgard. Tom Hiddleston’s hilariously conniving Loki also steals most of his scenes.

9 PM ( HALL) MOVIE Taking the Reins Urged by her magazine editor to put more of herself into her writing, Samantha (Nikki DeLoach) returns to her family’s ranch to do a story on horses, which has been her only lifelong passion. Her family is hosting an annual equestrian competition, so there should be no shortage of material, right? Once there, though, Sam is confronted by some painful memories, including why she gave up riding and what caused her marriage to Luke (Scott Porter) to fail. Corbin Bernsen and Janine Turner also star in this 2021 romance.
