Gov. DeSantis’ supporters can spare me the hypocrisy on government overreach.

While the governor and his supporters decried and defied local mask mandates, they ignored the fact that he banned all visitation for our most vulnerable population — nursing home residents — for an entire year, leaving loved ones extremely concerned about their fate.

Mask compliance afforded us the opportunity then (and now) to get this pandemic under control, yet they said that such a request infringed on their civil liberties. Had they not been so selfish, thousands of Florida’s seniors would not have had to endure the trauma of isolation and loneliness.
