SUNDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

7 PM * America’s Funniest Home Videos If it’s not broken, don’t fix it: That must be a basic principle for this show, as host Alfonso Ribeiro returns to open Season 32. The format couldn’t be simpler, with Ribeiro introducing a diverse assortment of video clips that show humans and animals at their unguarded best — or, even better, their embarrassing worst. Whatever the reason, this show is the longest-running primetime entertainment series in ABC history, and it also leads the pack in terms of family “co-viewing,” with parents and kids watching together.

8 PM ^ Call the Midwife Season 10 opens in 1966, a year that proves trying for the midwives, although the swelling women’s rights movement lends excitement to the moment. Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) is determined to lead Nonnatus House out of its current financial quandary, with help from Trixie (Helen George). Meanwhile, Dr. Turner (Stephen McGann) deals with several different cases, including an ex-soldier involved in nuclear test explosions. Elsewhere, Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) experiences a crisis of faith. Megan Cusack joins the cast as Nancy Corrigan, one of four new pupil midwives.

8 PM _ The Simpsons The titular family in this long-running animated sitcom may be famously fractious, but mess with one of them, and you’re liable to find the rest of the clan pushing back. That’s exactly what happens when Grampa Simpson (voice of Dan Castellaneta) falls victim to a telephone scam artist, sending his relatives out on a mission to get his money back and avenge their family honor in the new episode “Bart’s in Jail.” The guest voice cast includes Alan Cumming and sportscaster Scott Hanson (“NFL Redzone”).

8 PM * Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak and Vanna White welcome three new celebrity guests to spin the iconic wheel and try to win money for their favorite charities. Tonight’s guests include actor and former Conan O’Brien sidekick Andy Richter, playing for Los Angeles Regional Food Bank; actress-comic Caroline Rhea, playing on behalf of Dempsey Center; and rapper-reality TV personality Vanilla Ice, playing for Little Smiles.

8:20 PM & NFL Football Welcome back, Mr. Brady. Making his first appearance at Gillette Stadium since flying the coop for Tampa Bay after the 2019 season, Tom Brady returns to the scene of his greatest successes when he leads the Buccaneers against his former team, the New England Patriots. Of course, his change of address proved very beneficial as he led the Bucs to a Super Bowl win this past February. As for the Pats, they’re hoping to put last year’s 7-9 campaign behind them with rookie Mac Jones under center.

8:30 PM _ The Great North The members of a punk rock band invite Ham (voice of Paul Rust) to audition for their group after hearing him scream in the new episode “The Great Punkin’ Adventure.” Elsewhere, Honeybee and Wolf (Dulcé Sloan, Will Forte) land their first directing gig. Jenny Slate and Nick Offerman also are heard; the guest voice cast includes Tim Bagley, Brooke Dillman and David Herman.

9 PM ( Animal Kingdom This TV TNT) series adaptation of a 2010 cinematic crime drama closes out its fifth (and next to last) season with a finale called “Launch,” which finds all hands on deck as members of the Cody clan use every tool and trick in their book to pull off the criminal job of their lives. Of course, if they also can settle some old scores along the way, so much the better. Meanwhile, a deadly secret from the past comes to light. Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary and Finn Cole star.

9:30 PM _ Family Guy A wave of nostalgia comes over Peter (voice of Seth MacFarlane) during a visit to a vintage record store, prompting them to swap tales of music legends Jim Morrison, Muddy Waters and Elton John in a new episode called “Rock Hard.” The voice cast also features Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Arif Zahir and Patrick Warburton.
