Donald K. Poole, 80, passed away on November 16th at his home, surrounded by his family. Don had a long career as the Latin American Human Resource Director for Rohm and Haas (now Dow Chemical Company) from 1968 to 1998 in both Louisville, KY and Miami.
Mr. Poole was a native of Baltimore, MD. While attending Virginia Tech as an undergraduate student, he met his wife of 57 years, Jeanette. After graduating, Mr. Poole served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1968 and earned his MBA from George Washington University. Don and his family moved to Miami in 1974. Outside of work, Mr. Poole was the volunteer coach of the varsity lacrosse club at Miami Palmetto High School for six years and won a state championship in 1988. He was also an avid sailor that raced his sailboats, El Quieto and Cannonball on Biscayne Bay for many years. He enjoyed spending summers at his family cottage in Georgian Bay, Ontario. After retiring in 1998, Mr. Poole remained active in the yacht racing community as a member of Biscayne Bay and Coral Reef Yacht Clubs, where he served in several leadership roles. He was a regular race volunteer for many of Miami’s international yachting events . Mr. Poole led a successful effort to bring the Volvo Around the World Sailboat Race to Miami in 2012 and was accepted as a member into the Storm Trysail Club. In addition, Mr. Poole was an active member of the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium.
In addition to his wife, Jeanette, survivors include his son, Scott Poole and daughter-in-law Christy, of Fairfax, Virginia; his daughter, Stephanie McIntosh and son-in-law, Chay, of Truckee, California; his brothers Brian Poole of Annapolis, Maryland and Jim Poole of Youngstown, New York and his four grandchildren, Caroline, Jake, Sidney and Kendall.
The Villages , Florida Dr. Karl O. Magnusen, PhD proudly entered THE Heavenly University to assume his place on the celestial faculty forever on November 20th, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1941, he earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He then entered a distinguished academic career spanning two decades teaching at Columbia University and then Florida International University. His specialties included management and international business. During his career, he consulted with several large multinational corporations on business strategy and meeting global competitive challenges. During his tenure, he chaired major academic departments. As a prolific author, he wrote two books and several articles in professional business journals.
After retiring from Florida International in 2006, Dr. Magnusen was awarded the prestigious role of Professor Emeritus. He was then appointed as a Special Magistrate
