South Florida sees new weekly COVID declines
Florida on Saturday reported 22,705 new cases and seven new deaths to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
In the past seven days, the state has added 153 deaths and 28,254 cases per day, on average, according to Herald calculations of CDC data. In all, Florida has recorded at least 5,501,599 confirmed COVID cases and 64,647 deaths. This is the highest seven-day death average since mid-October.
Here’s a breakdown of how many new COVID-19 cases were reported this past week in South Florida. The Florida Department of Health includes county resident case totals in its weekly coronavirus report, which is released on Friday.
● Miami-Dade County reported 23,019 new resident cases in the week ending Jan. 27, according to Herald calculations of the state’s weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 1,121,486.

● Broward County reported 11,917 new resident cases in the week ending Jan. 27, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 573,312.
New infections fell by 48%, after falling by 52% the week before (Jan. 14 Jan. 20).
● Palm Beach County reported 8,711 new resident cases in the week ending Jan. 27, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 348,041.
New infections fell by 42%, after falling by 44% the week before (Jan. 14 Jan. 20).
● Monroe County reported 498 new resident cases in the week ending Jan. 27, according to Herald calculations of the weekly report. The county’s resident case total stands at 17,090.

There were 9,611 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services report on Saturday. This data is reported from 261 Florida hospitals. The number of people hospitalized across the state is 257 fewer than the day prior.
