SATURDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

2PM 2022 Winter Olympics An & early medal opportunity comes for the United States today in Beijing in cross-country skiing, where 2018 gold medalist Jessie Diggins figures to vie for podium space in the women’s skiathlon. Then in luge, 2018 silver medalist Chris Mazdzer vies for the U.S. in the first runs of the singles event. Also today: finals in women’s ski jump-ing and men’s and women’s relays in speed skating.

3PM * 2022 NHL All-Star Game T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nev., is the scene as the NHL All-Star Game returns after a two-year absence. As in years past, the format features the Metropolitan and Atlantic Divisions facing each other in a 20-minute game and a three-on-three format, followed by the Central and Pacific Divisions. Then the winners of each face off to determine a champion. Expect plenty of scoring. 7:20 PM (FREE) MOVIE Men in Black Blink and you’ll miss one of the best jokes in this tongue-in-cheek 1997 sci-fi tale: a wall of mug shots that reveals some of Earth’s more colorful celebrities to actually be aliens. They’re everywhere, and they’re aiming to destroy the Earth. That’s where agents J and K (Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones) come in. Newly paired by the supersecret federal agency that employs them, they’re sent off to stop the extraterrestrial aggressors. The two “Men in Black” sequels with Smith and Jones immediately follow.

8PM (A&E) MOVIE The LEGO Movie With the popularity of the toy building blocks over several generations, it’s somewhat surprising this

2014 film didn’t happen before it did — but there surely will be more chapters, given its box-office success and entertainment value. Chris Pratt voices a Lego figure mistakenly thought to be the only one able to stop a powercrazed executive (voice of Will Ferrell). Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Banks and (as Batman) Will Arnett also are heard.

8PM (LIFE) MOVIE Single Black Female Reeling from an emotional double-whammy in the form of a painful romantic break-up and the death of her father, Monica (Raven Goodwin) hopes her new gig as an afternoon talk show host may mark a new start for her. Her new assistant, Simone (Amber Riley, “Glee”), offers both personal and professional support, so the two women soon become close friends.

It’s only later that Monica discovers Simone is hiding a dark secret and has sinister designs on Monica’s new life. K. Michelle also stars in this new thriller. 9PM (SHO) MOVIE Werewolves Within This 2021 horror comedy was adapted from a video game, but it still earned unusually good reviews, thanks to a snappy script that is more about playful thrills than violence as it follows people in a small Vermont town who get trapped in a snowstorm, only to suspect that someone in their party is a werewolf. The sharp cast includes Sam Richardson (“Veep”), Harvey Guillen (“What We Do in the Shadows”), Michaela Watkins, Cheyenne Jackson and Milana Vayntrub, best known for her TV spots as Lily, the AT&T pitchwoman. 10 PM (SYFY) MOVIE The Visit After a string of resounding flops, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (“The Sixth Sense”) had a modest success with this little 2015 chiller about a teenager and her kid brother (Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould) who are sent off to their grandparents’ (Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie) remote Pennsylvania farm while their mother (Kathryn Hahn) takes a romantic cruise. The seniors seem charming at first, but some big shocks are in store for the grandkids.

10 PM (TRAV) Kindred Spirits And you thought your home makeover was a nightmare! The new episode “Disorderly Conduct” takes the team of Amy Bruni, Adam Berry and Chip Coffey to New York, where they launch an investigation into escalating paranormal activity at a residence that is in the process of renovation. The behavior of the hostile entities within suggest that they feel fiercely protective about the space, and they angrily rebuff any attempts by the human intruders to communicate with them.
