Coral Gables, Florida - Paul A. Gutlohn, M.D., passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he graduated from Central High School, Temple University, and Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital where he also served his internship. In 1961, he opened his medical office in Bridgeton, NJ and, in 1970, moved to South Florida where he started a new practice. He served as Chief of Family Medicine at South Miami Hospital and even after his retirement in 1999, he remained an Emeritus member of the hospital’s medical staff.

Paul loved the practice of medicine, and in turn, his patients loved him. His greatest love, though, was for his wife of 65 years, Sonya, his children, and grandchildren, with whom he spent all his free time. Paul was so proud to teach them all he knew about classical music, playing the guitar, growing orchids and cacti, the skills required for boating, fishing, and, of course, computers. He was an excellent cook and loved to create gourmet meals out of simple ingredients.

Paul loved life itself; he was a compassionate man who was also blessed to have many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but, especially by his wife, Sonya, his children, Sharon (Jay) Gayoso, Robert (Ellen) Gutlohn, and his grandchildren, Andrew (Kristin) Gayoso, Adam Gayoso, Lauren Gutlohn, and Ross Gutlohn.

Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act. alz.org).

The family also wishes to give special thanks to his many doctors for their compassionate care, and to his full-time caregiver and many aides. We deeply appreciate everyone’s support, kindness, and gentle touch during this challenging time.
