Canada regains control of the border
Members of the self-styled Freedom Convoy lifted blockades at U.S.-Canadian border crossings.
The busiest and most important crossing – the Ambassador Bridge connecting Windsor, Ontario, to Detroit – reopened last Sunday after police arrested dozens of demonstrators and broke the nearly week-long siege that had disrupted auto production in both countries.
By Wednesday, Canadian officials said truckers protesting the country’s COVID-19 restrictions were dismantling their last remaining blockade. The final blockaders left Emerson, Manitoba, opposite North Dakota, and border authorities reopened the crossing.
The focus of the protests shifted at once to the Canadian capital, Ottawa.
