Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who will lead the East in the 2022 All-Star Game, has forged his own path over the past 14 seasons to become one of the NBA’s top coaches.

CLEVELAND

There aren’t many topics that Erik Spoelstra dislikes discussing more than himself. He will point out that it makes him uncomfortable, and his self-deprecating humor then usually makes an appearance.

But while Spoelstra has been able to successfully avoid the spotlight for most of the 14 seasons he has spent as the Miami Heat’s head coach, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to do so.

Spoelstra and his staff will be the Eastern Conference’s coaching representatives leading Team Durant in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland (8 p.m., TNT), as the Heat entered the break at the top of the East with a 38-21 record. Jimmy Butler is the Heat’s lone player representative at All-Star weekend, and he will be on the opposite side of Spoelstra as a member of Team LeBron.

This honor comes after Spoelstra was named an assistant coach for USA Basketball and one of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history in recent weeks.

“People are bored with Spo’s greatness, and it sucks because I think right now
