Jerry Sokolow February 2, 1929 - February 17, 2022

Miami, Florida Jerry Sokolow, 93 of Miami, Florida, died after a sudden medical event on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Jerry was born in Trenton, NJ and raised in Miami, Florida. He attended Miami Senior High School and graduated from the University of Florida (the first of 3 generations of Gators), where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration and served in the R.O.T.C. He later served in the US Army. He became a CPA as well as Certified in Financial Forensics, a Certified Valuation Analyst and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He founded and was a partner in several accounting firms including a firm with his daughter, Carol Sokolow, CPA. In addition, he was a former Adjunct Accounting Professor at the University of Miami where he truly enjoyed teaching. While in his 80’s he worked as an Investigative Accountant with the State Attorney’s Office in the Criminal Investigations Division & Mortgage Fraud Division. His work was one of his passions.

His other passion included his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Sokolow, his two children Carol Sokolow (Ron Dias) of Miami, Florida and Leonard Sokolow (Sharon Sokolow),

Boca Raton, Florida, his three stepchildren, Patricia Kahn (Daniel Williams) of Seattle, WA, Jill Kahn (Daniel Sobush) of Miami, Florida, and Robert Kahn (Penny Parham) of Miami Beach, Florida and his many grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Jerry was extremely intelligent, witty, and charming. He and Arlene enjoyed many friendships and shared interests. They were avid sailors and boaters and often included family in many marine adventures. Jerry was a Commodore of the Matheson Hammock Yacht Club and member of the Finance Committee of the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, Florida, where he encouraged his grandchildren to attend its summer sailing camp for kids.

Also, of great pride to Jerry was when he served on the Board of Directors of 1,000 Friends of Florida from 1986-2001 as well as taking on the role of its Treasurer. 1000 Friends has been leading the way to protect natural lands, water resources and provide refuge for wildlife.
