Britishborn comic John Oliver will have some familiar targets in his satirical sights — including the apparently never-ending coronavirus pandemic and the widening partisan political divide separating Americans — as he returns for his ninth season. An Emmy magnet, Oliver and his show have bagged an astonishing 23 of those trophies since this series premiered in 2014. The show also has been the recipient of two Peabody Awards, a Critics Choice Award, two GLAAD Media Awards, five Writers Guild Awards and six consecutive awards from the Producers Guild of America.
