At 17, Herr’s own legs were amputated following a devastating climbing accident, and he quickly grew frustrated with the prosthetic limbs he was given in their place. After years of research, Herr now is teaming up with another injured climber and a Boston surgeon to test a new surgical amputation approach that allows prosthetic limbs to move and feel like the real thing.
