Miami, Florida - Grace Lynn Upshaw, 69, passed away February 17, 2022 after a brief illness at Baptist Hospital, Miami, FL.

At her request, no service will be held.

Grace was born December 1, 1952 in Miami, Florida to Len W. Upshaw and Florence T. Akin. Grace attended Southside Elementary and graduated from Miami Senior High, as did her mother. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Florida State University in 1974. She returned to South Florida to work at Seacamp, Big Pine Key, FL, alongside her sister and camp founder, Irene Hooper. Following Irene’s retirement, Grace served as Seacamp’s President and Executive Director until her death.

Grace was an active member of the American Camp Associatio­n (ACA), the Internatio­nal Camping Fellowship (ICF), the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce and the Big Pine and Lower Keys Rotary Club. She was an avid traveler, orchid lover and outspoken advocate and steward for marine conservati­on education. Grace was also fiercely devoted to her family and friends and will always be remembered for her generosity and love.

Grace is survived by her son Reece Spencer and his spouse Kasey Grace of Big Pine Key, FL; grandson Rory Spencer; brother John Upshaw and sister Estelle Williams of Miami, FL.; and long-time partner Craig Spencer of Jefferson, NC.
