David Leblang May 6, 1935 - March 23, 2022
Cleveland, Ohio - David Leblang, age 86, of Coral Gables, Florida passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He was born on May 6, 1935 in New York, New York.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Herbert Leblang, his mother Betty Leblang, his father-in-law Gilbert Press and his beloved mother-inlaw Ada Press.
David began his career with his father, owning and operating Nite Life Tours in Miami Beach. He later integrated tourism with the transportation business when he joined Red Top Sedan Service/American Bus Lines, which was bought out by Greyhound Bus Company in 1982. He and his partners bought back the company from Greyhound under the name American Sightseeing Bus Lines, Inc. He became Vice President of Sales of the new company. David was a pioneer in motor coach tours in Miami, leading to a long and successful career in local tourism. He was instrumental in acquiring an exclusive contract for bus service to and from Miami to the then new Walt Disney World in Orlando.
His tight alliance with the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce helped acquire transportation business for multiple yearly services for the Miami Beach Convention center, including Art Basel and the Miami International Boat Show.
His influence and experience also set a pathway for a tight relationship with the Orange Bowl Committee. Their strong relationship made him the liaison for all Orange Bowl games.
Throughout his career, David also played a role in partnerships with local universities such as the University of Miami, as well as pro sports teams such as the Miami Dolphins.
He arranged the sale of the company in 1996 to Coach USA where he stayed on as a consultant. David was well respected, a household name for his professionalism and accomplishments. He was sought out by industry leaders to share his expertise well into recent years.
David was an ardent golfer, and loved basketball, running and the Celtics. But most of all he loved his wife of 51 years, Sharon. No one could miss the love they shared, and the joy he felt whenever she was at his side. He also loved his brother-in-law Jay Press and his niece and nephew Melanie and Grant, his foster children Simon and Kathy Tse and his grandchildren Mandi and Melissa, and all of the extended family scattered around the country.
David was loved by everyone for his calm demeanor, wisdom, sense of humor, kindness and gentleness. He will be greatly missed.
