Eustis, Florida - Loving mother, Jean Elizabeth Bennett Underwood, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2022.

Jean was born on January 31, 1927 in Miami to John Jackson (JJ) Bennett and Helen Wray Bennett. JJ was one of the founding engineers at Biscayne Engineerin­g in Miami, and Helen was a devoted mother and grandmothe­r to the family.

Jean is predecease­d by her parents, her husband, Russell S. Underwood MD, her brothers, John Wray Bennett and Thomas Jackson Bennett, and her sisters, Helen Mills Koesy and Sarah Louise Bennett.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Stuart Underwood and husband, Alfred F Paolangeli as well as many beloved nieces and nephews both great and grand.

Jean graduated from Miami Senior High in 1944, from Florida State University with a Batchelor of Science degree, and Duke University School of Nursing, 1949.

She was an OB/Gyn nurse in private practice and a surgical nurse at Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables for over 20 years, retiring in 1989.

Jean was a long-time member of South Miami Baptist Church and later the Fellowship Church of South Miami.

Jean was an avid lover and breeder of Dachshunds and orchids.

She was a long-time member of the Miami Senior High Alumni Club, the Baptist Hospital Retired Nurses Group as well as an avid player of bingo at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Kendall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Duke University School of Nursing.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 29 at 1:30PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Cemetery, 3260 SW 8th street, Miami, FL 33135

Funeral arrangemen­ts will be handled by Hayes Brothers Funeral Home in Eustis, FL
