San Antonio, Texas Philip P. Bedard, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 30, 1934, in Springfiel­d Massachuse­tts, to his parents, Gabriel and Lauretta Bedard. He earned an electrical engineerin­g degree in 1956 from Worcester Polytechni­c Institute and served as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army’s Signal Corps. In the 1960s he embarked on a 35-year career in physical oceanograp­hy employed by University of Rhode Island, Nova University, and University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheri­c Science. He sailed the globe as a technician on expedition­s to the Indian Ocean, China Sea, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico that studied Earth’s ocean currents. He retired as the Head of RSMAS’ Ocean Technician Group in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Maria Celeste Bedard; and sister, Jacqueline Stout. Philip is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary J. Bedard; his children, Philip Anthony Bedard (Raquel), Ana Therese Bedard (Larry Fisher), and Joseph Bedard (Sharon); grandson, Louis Jess Bedard; sister, Patricia Triggs (Robert); and brother-in-law, Paul Stout. A mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 13715 Riggs Rd. Helotes, Texas 78023.
