Asivak Koostachin, Eugene Brave Rock and Rob Story also star. 9PM ^ Making Black America: Through the Grapevine This four-part series hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. chronicles the vast social networks and organizati­ons created by and for Black people beyond the reach of the “white gaze.” The series premiere episode “Building Black America,” explores how free Black people built towns, establishe­d schools and held convention­s, creating networks to address the political, economic and social needs of the Black community. Gates sits with scholars, politician­s and cultural leaders to discuss this world behind the color line and what it looks like today. 9PM (BET) (VH1) 2022 Hip Hop Awards It’s a battle of the megastars at the BET 2022 Hip Hop Awards as Drake leads all with 14 nomination­s, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Hustler of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Best Live Performer and Hip Hop Album of the Year and even has multiple nods within the same categories. This new documentar­y goes beyond the legend and introduces the inspiring woman who repeatedly risked her own life and freedom to liberate others from slavery. Alfre Woodard narrates.
