Boca Raton, Florida - Dr. Stephen Alan Schulman, a physician, former Navy officer and the founder of a network of diagnostic imaging centers, has died. He was 86 and passed away at his home in Boca Raton, Florida, on October 8, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, on August 20, 1936, Dr. Schulman was a graduate of Miami Beach High School, Class of 54, and Emory University, which he completed in three years while playing varsity tennis. Steve attended the University of Miami School of Medicine before serving as a lieutenant in the Navy. He went on to have a prominent career as a radiologist and was a pioneer in the field of freestanding diagnostic imaging centers. He was among the first physicians in the United States to form an innovative and successful organization of outpatient imaging facilities. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 22yrs Pamela (Sklovsky) Schulman; daughter Elise (Steven) Kalisch; son Joseph Schulman; grandchildren, Mia and Ben Kalisch; sister, Joan Holtzberg. Predeceased by daughter Dana Anderson. Steve was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a dear friend to so many. Steve was the patriarch of our family and Pamela’s knight in shining armor. Steve and Pamela shared an extraordinary and beautiful life together. They built a home in Utah called Lions Paw, with Steve’s dream tennis court. Steve was for years a competitive USTA player, and introduced the sport to Pamela, who instantly became passionate about the game. One of Steve’s proudest moments was competing in the USTA National Grandfather/Grandson Grass Court Championships in Longwood, MA with Ben. He was an avid deep-sea fisherman aboard his boat, The Langouste. He loved his Wheaten Terriers, Keith and Aubrey. Steve was a hero and mentor to so many. Once you were one of his people, he was there for you for life. He was handsome with a shock of grey hair that made other men jealous. Steve was brilliant, a man’s man, with a twinkle in his eye and always a cigar in hand. Steve was always the coolest guy in the room. Steve was one of a kind. There will never be another like him. We will miss him always. His memory will live on in all of us. Our hearts are broken. May his memory be for a blessing.
