Sanders, Lamm elevated for Sunday

- BY DANIEL OYEFUSI doyefusi@miamiherald.com

The Dolphins have elevated wide receiver Braylon Sanders and offensive tackle Kendall Lamm from the practice squad for Sunday’s home game against the Green Bay Packers.

With wideout River Cracraft and offensive tackle Eric Fisher doubtful to play because of respective calf injuries, Sanders and Lamm are expected to provide depth.

It’s the third and final elevation for Sanders, who has spent the entire season on the practice squad after signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in March. In two games, Sanders has two receptions (three targets) for 17 yards.

It’s the second elevation for Lamm, who signed with the team in early December and has yet to appear in a game. Lamm, 30, has played in 86 career games with 28 starts. Most of the eightyear veteran’s experience is at right tackle but he has also taken snaps at left tackle. Lamm last played in an NFL game with the Tennessee Titans in the 2021 season and was previously on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad this season.

The Dolphins did not activate left guard Liam Eichenberg from injured reserve, which means he will not play against the Packers. Head coach Mike McDaniel has said Eichenberg, who injured his knee in Week 8 and has missed the past six games, has progressed well since returning to practice on Dec. 7 but stopped short of saying he would make his return Sunday. Since the Dolphins’ 53-man roster is full, the team would have had to make a corresponding move to create room for Eichenberg.

Eichenberg’s 21-day window to return to the active roster closes Tuesday. If he is not added to the 53-man roster by then, he must spend the remainder of the season on IR.

PLAYOFF PROJECTION UPDATE

Buffalo clinched the AFC East by beating the Bears on Saturday. But Miami (8-6) got further help from the Patriots, who lost to the Bengals, meaning the Dolphins just need to win any two of their remaining three regular-season games to clinch a playoff berth. If Miami fails to do so, it would need assistance from other outcomes.

After hosting the Packers, the Dolphins play the Patriots (7-8) on the road on New Year’s Day and then conclude the regular season by hosting the Jets (7-8) on Jan. 8.
