Tallahasse­e, Florida Katharine “Kathy” Estelle Jones Siegendorf, 87, beloved teacher and devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, died in Tallahasse­e, Florida, on December 29, 2022. She is survived by her loving daughter Stacey Siegendorf Butler; sonin-law Thad Butler; two granddaugh­ters, Emily and Katharine “Kate” of Tallahasse­e, Florida; sister-inlaw Sharon Jones of Laguna Woods, California; and five nephews and their families. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle Brown Owen and Arthur Jones; half-brother, John Sanders; and brother, Kenneth Jones. Born on October 26, 1935, in Indianapol­is, Indiana, Kathy attended Indiana University, where she graduated in 1957 with a degree in Education. After graduation, Kathy became a stewardess with Eastern Airlines, initially based out of New York City, and eventually landed in Miami, Florida, where she lived for more than 40 years.Kathy began her 37-year teaching career at David Fairchild Elementary School in Miami in 1960 and was a cherished and favorite teacher among her kindergart­en and first-grade students. She made some of her best friends through David Fairchild and remained in touch with them throughout her life. Once Kathy retired, she moved to Tallahasse­e to spend more time with her family. Having dedicated much of her life to raising her daughter, Kathy’s other love was her adored cats. She rescued, fed, adopted, and loved many kittens and cats. Kathy was an incredibly kindhearte­d, compassion­ate, and genuine person who touched many lives and will be deeply missed.In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in Kathy’s memory to the Leon County Humane Society (www.leoncounty­humane.org) or Big Bend Hospice (www.bigbendhos­pice.org).
