Eichenberg out, two players elevated
BUFFALO, N.Y.
The Dolphins on Saturday ruled out left guard Liam Eichenberg
for Sunday’s wild-card round game against the Buffalo Bills and elevated offensive lineman Lester Cotton and running back La’Michal Perine from the practice squad.
Miami on Friday listed Eichenberg as doubtful to play because of a hand injury. The Dolphins also listed three additional linemen as questionable to play: offensive tackles
Terron Armstead (toe/ pec/knee/hip), Kendall Lamm (ankle) and
Brandon Shell (knee, ankle). Armstead and Lamm did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but were limited Friday, while Shell did not practice this week.
Eichenberg sustained his injury in the team’s regular-season finale against the New York
Jets and did not practice this week. Robert Jones, who filled in for Eichenberg when he missed several weeks on injured reserve, could return to the starting left guard spot.
It’s the first elevation for both Cotton and Perine. Cotton signed to the practice squad on Dec. 20. Cotton, who originally signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 after he wasn’t selected in the draft, has appeared in 14 games with one start in his career. All of his snaps have come at right guard. He appeared in 10 games this season before he was waived on Dec. 15.
Perine signed with the Dolphins practice squad on Oct. 18. He’s expected to provide depth in the backfield with Raheem
Mostert ruled out because of a broken thumb. Perine, a fourth-round pick of the Jets in 2020, has appeared in 14 games, recording 72 carries for 263 yards (3.7 avg.) and two touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 63 yards (5.7 avg.) and returned two kickoffs for 22 yards (11.0 avg.).
The Dolphins did not elevate veteran quarterback
Mike Glennon, which indicates Teddy Bridgewater will be able to back up rookie
Skylar Thompson despite a dislocated pinkie on his right (throwing) hand.
