Dolphins activate CB Ramsey; likely to make debut Sunday vs. Patriots
It’s becoming increasingly likely cornerback
Jalen Ramsey will make his Dolphins debut against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Miami on Saturday activated Ramsey to the 53-man roster, exactly three months to the date of meniscus surgery that has sidelined him for the first seven games of the season.
Ramsey is listed as questionable to play and has been a limited participant in practice over the past two weeks. He received an uptick in reps this week and spent time with the starting defense.
“He’s only interested in one version of Jalen Ramsey,” Dolphins coach
Mike McDaniel said on Friday, “and that’s Jalen Ramsey and we know him to be that, because he’s not going to shortchange the team and go play a game where he knew going into it that, ‘Oh man, I might have to come out in the second quarter, or that I’m just going to be a non-convicted version of myself.’ Well, that takes away what he does for his teammates when he’s going. When he’s going, everybody can feel — by how he plays — residual energy, so he’s not going to settle. He’s not a settler.”
To make room for Ramsey on the active roster, the Dolphins released cornerback Parry Nickerson.
Nickerson, who signed with the team in the middle of training camp, appeared in five games, spending time in the defense’s dime package and on special teams.
The Dolphins also ruled out starting safety Jevon Holland (concussion protocol) and wide receiver River Cracraft (shoulder).
Holland reported concussion symptoms on Monday and was progressing through the return-to-play stages but will miss his first game of the season. Brandon Jones is expected to start in place of Holland.
Cracraft was designated to return to practice this week after being placed on injured reserve.

49ers: San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy has cleared concussion protocol and will not carry an injury designation into Sunday’s game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday indicated Purdy would start if he was cleared to play.
“Yeah, definitely,” Shanahan told reporters. “He was full-go today, so he’s just got to pass that
A[Saturday].”
Purdy began experiencing concussion symptoms on the flight home following Monday night’s 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings during which he appeared to take a hard hit to the helmet. He returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis before turning in a full session on Friday. He was then listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.
Purdy is completing 67.9 percent of his passes for 1,668 yards, 11 TDs and three interceptions on the season. If Purdy does not play, Sam Darnold would be in line to make his first start for San Francisco. The former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers starter signed with the 49ers as a free agent in March.
Raiders: Las Vegas quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set to play Monday night against the Detroit Lions after missing last week’s game against the Chicago
ABears.
Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels called Garoppolo “good to go” for Monday after the veteran worked his way through a back injury.
“I think he’s got a little pep in his step,” McDaniels said of his quarterback. “He’s much the same as everybody else is. He didn’t play last week but I think he wants to get us headed in the right direction and start doing some things we haven’t been doing well.”
Garoppolo, in his first season with the Raiders (3-4), did not play in the team’s humbling 30-12 defeat last week as Brian Hoyer and Aidan O’Connell struggled to move the ball with a combined 196 yards passing and three interceptions.
Garoppolo, 31, has completed 68 percent of his passes in five games this season for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns, but has eight interceptions.
In 10 NFL seasons with the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Raiders, Garoppolo has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 15,368 yards, 94 touchdowns and 50 interceptions over 79 games (62 starts).
Bengals: Cincinnati rookie running back Chase Brown was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Brown, who is nursing a hamstring injury, already had been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the host San Francisco 49ers. He will miss at least four games as a result of Saturday’s move.
Joe Mixon remains the starting running back in Cincinnati, with Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans as backups.
