- BY GREGG ELLMAN Tribune News Service

With the launch of the new iPhone 15 comes new accessories, with a lot to choose from. There is no right or wrong; it’s what you like.

CASES, SCREEN PROTECTORS

Catalyst was the first to hit my inbox by introducing their new Influence and MagSafe compatible cases for the Apple iPhone 15 series of smartphones. The new rugged Catalyst cases add a layer of protection and a design feature to prevent drops before they happen. They are available in two designs: a standard case ($39.99) and one specifically made for the Apple iPhone MagSafe wireless charging functionality ($59.99).

The Influence cases have several layers of protection, including two and a half times more drop-proof protection than the military standard of 10 feet. It has an anti-slip grip, a drop-prevention lanyard (removable if you don’t want it on), and four corner attachments. Users can attach their accessories to these corners, such as key rings or carabiners.

The cases have patented forwarded-facing audio developed for crystal-clear sound. A non-slip grip surrounds the case while keeping all the iPhone buttons and controls accessible, including the new USB-C charging port.

Catalyst also releases

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors ($39.99) for all four iPhone 15 sizes. They are ultra-thin and lightweight, maintaining perfect display clarity while providing shatter- and scratch-resistant protection. They are fingerprintfree and case-friendly, with cases that have raised edges to prevent impacts.

Catalyst also announced in congestion with Apple’s announced changes to the latest model of AirPods Pro that the Catalyst Total Protection Waterproof Cases and Drop Proof Cases are now compatible with the new AirPods Pro with USB-C charging cable compatibility. The TPC cases offer industry-leading waterproof protection of 330 feet and the highest drop rating of up to 20 feet.

CHARGING CABLES

With the new USB-C connection on the iPhone 15, many of us are in cable transition, which is where Raycon Global’s new 3-foot Magic 180 ($24.99) and the 6-foot Magic 180 Pro ($34.99) are game changers. They feature three interchangeable magnetic attachment charging tips (USB-C, Apple Lightning, and micro USB), which can be switched out quickly.

They attach to a swiveling 180-degree port to make a perfect connection to your device at the optimal angle needed.

Both models are rated to provide 100 watts of power delivery and have a protective neck on both ends. They are both made of durable braided nylon; the Magic 180 Pro has a slightly thicker, more robust silicon material to protect against high-frequent uses. The Pro also includes a USB-C to USB-A converter. An additional 3-pack of Magic Tips can be purchased for $9.99.

Raycon’s new Magic Pad Pro wireless charger ($39.99) can re-energize a smartphone, earbuds and Apple Watch simultaneously. The pocket-sized on-the-go charger has a modular design to fold out flat and expose the three magnetic charging pads. They can be used independently or in any combination of any or all. The module for Apple Watch charging pops out, so charging can be done at a 90-degree angle.

ZAGG PRODUCTS

Zagg has announced XTR3 screen protectors and protective cases infused with Graphene, which they call one of the strongest materials on Earth.

Glass XTR3 ($59.99), made with Hexiom impact technology, is touted by Zagg as 10 times stronger than traditional glass screen protection. It also features anti-reflective technology and a smooth coating to reduce friction as your finger on the display. An EZ Apply installation system includes an installation tray to ensure smooth installation and that the screen lines up perfectly on the display.

The XTR3 is made with up to 30% post-consumer recycled glass and features blue light filtration with Eyesafe Technology, which filters high-energy visible blue light. Zagg stated too much blue light exposure from viewing screens at night may impact our circadian rhythms and cause trouble sleeping, waking during the night, and reduced alertness the next day.

The new Zagg cases are made with Graphene, which, according to Zagg, is harder than a diamond yet more elastic than rubber and up to 200 times stronger than steel.

Among the new case lineup is the MagSafecompatible Milan Snap ($49.99). It features a semi-transparent surface enhanced with subtle, nature-inspired imagery, including leaf, ocean, glacier, and iridescent.

The Milan Snap is rated as safe from drops up to 13 feet.

The MagSafe-compatible Crystal Palace Snap with Kickstand ($54.99) features an integrated kickstand for handsfree viewing, which folds back flush with the case when it’s not in use. The Manhattan Snap ($49.99) is also MagSafe compatible and is designed for the professional traveler who values protection, convenience and a sleek, sophisticated style.
