Prosperity in Miami-Dade brought to you by tourism
In Miami-Dade County, many of us are unaware of the outsized role tourism plays in providing the economic foothold enabling quality-of-life benefits and public service amenities for all our neighborhoods.
At the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, we’re working to change that. During our annual meeting Oct. 26, we shared great results from the past fiscal year, including the millions of visitors who drove robust hotel bookings and the hard work of our team to surpass convention trade show goals. We also launched something new.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava proclaimed Oct. 26, “Brought to You by Tourism Campaign Day.” This designation spotlights our grassroots initiative to harness the power of personal storytelling.
The campaign focuses on humanizing tourism’s impacts. We seek to leverage emotion — to inform and to inspire residents to share their personal stories

of the positive impact of tourism on their lives.
We want to address the misperception that tourism in Miami-Dade is only tied to hotels and restaurants. In actuality, the billions of dollars in visitor spending generates annual tax revenue to support retail and business-to-business spending, public transportation, entertainment opportunities, arts and culture, education, and public health institutions.
Tourism breathes life into small businesses, empowers local entrepreneurs and attracts new ones — and supports over 146,000 jobs.
My hope is that this campaign inspires residents to appreciate the ways in which tourism enriches all of our lives in such profound ways. Take the first step by visiting www.broughttoyoubytourism.com and share your story. – David Whitaker, president & CEO, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau
