Former Heat guard Dragic retiring at 37; Knicks acquiring Anunoby from Raptors

- Miami Herald Staff and Wires

One of the best points guards in Miami Heat history is retiring.

Goran Dragic will retire after 15 NBA seasons, The Athletic reported Saturday. Dragic played last season with the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks but did not play this season.

Dragic, 37, spent six-plus seasons with the Heat (February 2015 through 2020-21) before he was traded to Toronto in the

Kyle Lowry deal. Dragic is among the Heat’s all-time leaders in field goals made (ninth), three-point shots made (seventh), assists (third) and points (ninth).

Dragic joined the Heat when Phoenix traded him midway through the 201415 season. He averaged 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists in his Heat career.

One of his best stretches with Miami came during the 2020 run to the NBA Finals in the Disney bubble amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He averaged a team-high 20.9 points in the first three rounds of the playoffs before tearing the plantar fascia in his left foot in Game 1 of the NBA

Finals against the L.A. Lakers.

Dragic, a native of Slovenia, helped lead his country to the 2017 EuroBasket championship.

Knicks-Raptors trade: A

New York is set to acquire forward OG Anunoby from Toronto, multiple outlets reported Saturday, in exchange for guards RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, as well as a second-round draft pick.

The Knicks also get center Precious Achiuwa and guard Malachi Flynn from the Raptors in the deal.

Chris Sale to Atlanta:

The Braves acquired lefthander Chris Sale from Boston for infield prospect

Vaughn Grissom.

Sale waived his no-trade clause. The Red Sox will send $17 million to the Braves to offset Sale’s 2024 salary.

A seven-time All-Star, Sale is owed $27.5 million in 2024, with a $20 million club option for 2025.

Sale, 34, has dealt with injury issues in recent seasons, making 20 starts last season and 31 combined starts over the past three seasons.

Last season, Sale dealt with a stress fracture in his scapula, going 6-5 with a 4.30 ERA.

Grissom, 22, made his major league debut with the Braves in 2022 and has a .287 batting average with five home runs and 27 RBI in 64 games with Atlanta over the past two seasons.

Red Sox add pitching: A

Boston is signing veteran right-hander Lucas Giolito

to a two-year, $38.5 million contract with an opt-out after the first season, ESPN reported.

Giolito, 29, debuted with the Washington Nationals in 2016, but has spent almost all of his major-league career with the Chicago White Sox. Since his first full season in the majors in 2018, he owns a 4.48 ERA and 1.257 WHIP across 167 starts totaling 947 innings. His record is 61-62.

He was an All-Star in 2019, his first of three consecutive seasons in which he received AL Cy Young votes. He’s been durable, averaging just over 174 innings per season over the last five campaigns, and the Red Sox need durability in their rotation.

In 2023, he was traded from Chicago to Anaheim, then to Cleveland after six starts, as the Angels began dumping salaries. Despite that, he made an American League-leading 33 starts, and pitched 1841⁄3 innings, both career highs.
