Fins elevate Ingram from practice squad

-

The Dolphins elevated linebacker Melvin In- gram from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s road game against the Baltimore Ravens.

It was the second of three elevations allowed this season for Ingram, who made his season debut against Dallas last week.

Ingram, who spent the 2022 season with Miami and signed to the practice squad recently, played 21 defensive snaps and recorded two tackles against Dallas.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Ingram, 34, played well despite being back with the team only a couple of weeks.

“Not bad considering the circumstances,” Fangio said. “I think Melvin is an instinctive player. Football comes natural to him. But he hadn’t played. I think the more he gets in the football shape, the better he can play.”

Ingram was a firstround draft pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2012 and has played in 146 regular-season games.

The Dolphins did not elevate an offensive lineman, a sign that Lester

Cotton, Liam Eichenberg and Austin Jackson, all of whom are listed as questionable to play, will be active. Right guard Robert Hunt is doubtful to play because of a hamstring injury.

Miami also did not elevate a defensive back, which means safety Jevon Holland and cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey will likely play despite being listed as questionable.

A name to watch: The Ravens’ defense is so strong this season that 36-year-old defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald is being mentioned as a head-coaching candidate.

It wasn't long ago Macdonald was a linebackers coach with Baltimore in 2020. He then left Ravens coach John Harbaugh to become a defensive coordinator for his brother, Jim Harbaugh, at Michigan in 2021. The Wolverines won their first Big Ten title since 2004, and then Macdonald returned to the pros to become a coordinator in Baltimore.

“I just think he's a wizard," Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith said.

One of the defense’s strong points is the pass rush; it leads the NFL with 54 sacks.
