Being one of the top high school basketball prospects in the nation, Cameron Boozer barely gets a break from being on a basketball court.

Even after the season ended with a third consecutive state championship for Boozer and Columbus, he and his teammates were back on the court three weeks later competing in a pair of prestigious national championship tournaments.

The AAU season awaits after and then it’s right back at it for Boozer as he and his brother, Cayden, look to complete a state title sweep for their high school careers with the Explorers.

Boozer wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It’s just the love of the game,” Boozer said. “It’s not work for us. We enjoy putting in the time and we love what we do. You have to find a balance with everything.”

That love has kept Cameron Boozer on course through one of the most decorated high school boys basketball careers of any player in South Florida history.

Boozer is adding to his long list of accolades as he earns the Miami Herald’s Class 7A-5A Player of the Year honors for the third consecutive season.

Boozer, who averaged 22 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game this season, has already won multiple state Player of the Year honors and is likely to repeat as winner again. He not only led Columbus to its third state title in a row, he rescued the Explorers when they saw that goal slipping away against Orlando Oak Ridge in the 7A state final.

Boozer drove and delivered the game-tying dunk to send the game to overtime where the Explorers would pull away for the win.

“The idea was to get to the rim and get the layup or the foul, I just went up and dunked it,” Boozer said.

Columbus had bigger goals in mind this season and nearly accomplished them as it was ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps for several weeks. Boozer led the Explorers to a runner-up finish at The Throne tournament and later to the semifinals of the Chipotle Nationals before losing to national champion Montverde Academy.

“Winning a state championship is always a big goal,” Boozer said. “We have to reload again and we’re going to be ready.”
