“Blondie on a Budget” (Catchy Comedy, Sunday, May 26): A day of movies about the iconic comic-strip character concludes a weekend that began with many episodes of a “Blondie” television series. This 1940 features sees husband Dagwood (played by Arthur Lake) try to reassure Blondie (Penny Singleton) that she has nothing to worry about when an old girlfriend visits – despite the fact that the ex-flame is portrayed by legendary screen siren Rita Hayworth – and Dagwood’s effort becomes literally costly.

“The Dirty Dozen” (Turner Classic Movies, Sunday, May 26): When it comes to war stories, this one ranks among the most popular ever put on film. As it also has been in many other years, the Robert Aldrich-directed 1967 adventure is part of a Memorial Day Weekend marathon of military films, with Lee Marvin as a tough World War II major ordered to get 12 convicts in shape for a mission to target a gathering of high-level German officers at a French chateau. Charles Bronson, John Cassavetes, Telly Savalas, Jim Brown, Donald Sutherland and singer Trini Lopez are among those playing the “Dozen.”

“Forrest Gump” (Paramount+ With Showtime, Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27): Tom Hanks earned his second Oscar for best actor as he took this iconic title character through encounters with others, both real and fictional, in director Robert Zemeckis’ unique and resonant 1994 drama. Forrest discovers that “life is like a box of chocolates” through his experiences with such people as his mother (Sally Field) and his true love (Robin Wright). Gary Sinise and Mykelti Willamson also give excellent performances in the film, named best picture at the Academy Awards for its year.
