SMALL BUT DEADLY

-

both houses of Congress are really concerned about 800,000 federal workers and others being financially affected by the shutdown — in addition to the public’s safety and security — then they would show it by voting against the president’s veto.

The Republicans have long been enthralled with Ronald Reagan’s bumpersticker political philosophy. They especially thrill to “The government that governs best governs the least.” attributed to Henry David Thoreau. Now they will have their chance to experience the “least” part, brought to them — and to us — by President Trump.

But if they are impatient for “good” government, Reagan style, I suggest they book a quick flight to Sudan, Somalia or Yemen, where they will find the “least” government, indeed. ALEXANDRA VILLOCH PUBLISHER JOHN S. KNIGHT (1894-1981)
