Red-hot Mets reach .500 mark

Zack Wheeler pitched into the eighth inning, Todd Frazier delivered a clever push bunt and the New York Mets kept up their run of comebacks, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-3 Sunday for their sixth win in seven games.

Adeiny Hechavarri­a’s three-run homer helped the Mets rally from an early 3-0 deficit and reach the .500 mark. New York has trailed in all but one of these recent victories, with each of them coming at Citi Field.

Nicholas Castellano­s homered and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who have lost 11 of 12.

Edwin Diaz escaped his own jam in the ninth, striking out John Hicks with runners at first and third, then fanning JaCoby Jones with runners at second and third for his 13th save in 14 chances.

Jones hopped up and shouted at plate umpire Jerry Meals after being called out on a 3-2 pitch that appeared a touch outside.

Wheeler (4-3) had retired 13 batters in a row before Jones led off the eighth with a single. Wheeler struck out pinchhitte­r Miguel Cabrera and was pulled after walking Niko Goodrum.

Rockies 8, Orioles 7: Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game, pitcher German Marquez tripled and drove in three runs, and host Colorado scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally past Baltimore.

Blue Jays 10, Padres 1: Cavan Biggio had three hits, including his first career home run, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had four hits and homered for the third straight game, and host Toronto avoided a threegame sweep.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Brewers 9, Phillies 1: Brandon Woodruff allowed a solo homer but was otherwise perfect over eight innings, Christian Yelich hit his NL-leading 21st home run and host Milwaukee went deep five times to beat Philadelph­ia.

Dodgers 11, Pirates 7: Matt Beaty had four RBI and Corey Seager drove in two for the Dodgers, who got five innings of threerun ball from Kenta Maeda (6-2) in his return from the injured list. Los Angeles has won nine of 11.

Reds 10, Cubs 2: Nick Senzel had three hits, scored four times and cut down a runner at the plate, helping Tanner Roark and Cincinnati win at Chicago.

Diamondbac­ks 6, Giants 2: Ketel Marte homered for the third time in three games, Eduardo Escobar had three hits, and Arizona tied a franchise record for scoring in a three-game series as finished a sweep at San Francisco.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Red Sox 4, Astros 1: Rafael Devers homered off Justin Verlander, and Boston took advantage of two errors by the Astros to avoid a series sweep at Houston.

Royals 8, Yankees 7 (10): Whit Merrifield got a lucky hop on an RBI single in the 10th inning, and host Kansas City beat New York despite blowing a six-run lead. Kevin McCarthy (2-1) threw a scoreless 10th to earn the win.

Rays 6, Indians 3: Austin Meadows led off the game with a home run and was 4 for 4 with three RBI, leading Tampa Bay to a win at Cleveland.

Twins 7, White Sox 0: Jake Odorizzi allowed one hit in 51⁄3 scoreless innings, and Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler each hit three-run homers as Minnesota completed a sweep of visiting Chicago.

Angels 7, Rangers 6: Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun scored on wild pitches in a six-run seventh inning that gave host Los Angeles a comeback win over Texas.

Athletics 7, Mariners: Matt Chapman homered for the second consecutiv­e day, Josh Phegley also went deep and had three RBI, and streaking host Oakland won its ninth in a row to complete a threegame sweep.
