Jets WR Enunwa is out for season

- From Miami Herald Wire Services

Quincy Enunwa’s season is over after his second neck injury in just over two years.

The New York Jets wide receiver was hurt Sunday in the season-opening loss to Buffalo and told the team’s medical staff Monday that he wasn’t feeling right physically and had several tests.

The 27-year-old Enunwa missed the entire 2017 season after injuring his neck in training camp. He had bulging disks in his neck that required surgery, but it wasn’t immediately certain if the two injuries are related.

Coach Adam Gase also wouldn’t speculate if the latest injury could threaten Enunwa’s career, saying “there’s a lot steps left here” before that will be determined.

“I just know for this season, I know for sure,” Gase said Wednesday. “I think he’s going through a lot of different tests and he’s got to talk to doctors. I don’t want to say that because I don’t know.”

Enunwa returned last season from the first neck injury and had 38 catches for 449 yards and a touchdown, and the team rewarded him with a fouryear, $36 million contract extension.

Broncos: Inside linebacker

● Todd Davis practiced for the first time since tearing his left calf muscle on the first day of training camp. Davis, who was the team’s leading tackler last season, said he hopes to play against the Bears this weekend.

Giants: New York

Giants re-signed receiver

TJ Jones and placed veteran linebacker Kareem Martin on injured reserve with a knee issue. The Giants made the moves because of concern about the status of receiver Sterling Shepard for Sunday’s home opener against the Buffalo Bills. Shepard is in the concussion protocol after being hurt in the season-opening 35-17 loss at Dallas.

Raiders: Rookie safety

● Johnathan Abram will be placed on injured reserve after injuring his shoulder in the season opener. Abram was injured in the first half Monday night against the Denver Broncos. He finished the game but will need to undergo surgery on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.

49ers: Rookie defensive

● end Nick Bosa is not practicing as San Francisco began three days of workouts at Youngstown State. The No. 2 overall pick from Ohio State missed the entire preseason with a high ankle sprain, but played 39 total snaps and had a sack Sunday in San Francisco’s 31-17 win at Tampa Bay. San Francisco is spending the week in the Mahoning Valley — instead of flying cross country from Florida — before its game on Sunday at Cincinnati.

Bengals: Receiver A.J.

Green has started running for the first time since he hurt his ankle during the opening practice of training camp, an indication he’s healing quickly from surgery. Green was out of his protective boot for the first time since the injury. The Bengals expect him back during the first half of the season, although there’s no specific target for his return.
