UM men take on Va. Tech, look to end four-game losing streak

- From Miami Herald Staff, Wires — MICHELLE KAUFMAN

After a pair of doubledigit road losses at Duke and North Carolina, the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team is back home Tuesday night at 8 p.m. to face Virginia Tech at the Watsco Center.

Starting guards Chris Lykes (groin) and Kam McGusty (back spasms) sat out the 94-71 loss to the Tar Heels and their status for Tuesday’s game is day-to-day.

Lykes and McGusty are two of the team’s top three scorers, so their absence is difficult for an already-thin UM squad to overcome.

Freshmen Isaiah Wong

and Anthony Walker

were thrown in to the starting lineup against North Carolina. Wong scored 19 points and Walker had 14. The Hurricanes (10-9, 2-7 ACC) have lost six of their seven games in January.

Virginia Tech (14-6, 5-4 ACC) is led by redshirt freshman Landers Nolley,

who averages 17.9 points per game.

The last time the teams met, in the second round of the 2019 ACC Tournament, the Hokies won 71-56.
