Florida has more than 10,000 coronaviru­s cases with 170 deaths

Florida now has over 10,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the state Department of Health said Friday evening. The state total is now 10,268 cases and 170 deaths.

Since Thursday night, the state has reported 1,260 new confirmed cases and 26 new deaths in its twice-daily reports. Health officials reported 683 new cases on Friday evening and 577 Friday morning.

Of the seven new deaths reported Friday evening, four were in Palm Beach County. No new deaths in Miami-Dade, Broward or Monroe counties were reported during the evening.

The Department of Health has not yet released additional informatio­n on the seven new deaths.

On Friday morning, the state had reported 19 new deaths, 13 of which were in South Florida: five in Miami-Dade County, five in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County.

One of the deaths announced by the state Friday was a 55-year-old man in the Florida Keys.

Monroe County officials confirmed his death to the Miami Herald Thursday night. Friends and family members have identified the man as Keith White of Key West. He’s the first COVID-19 death in

Monroe County.

Including the new deaths, Miami-Dade County now has a total of 25 COVID-19 deaths, Broward has 22, Palm Beach has 33, and Monroe has 1. The other deaths were in Charlotte, Highlands, Lee, Monroe, Orange, Pinellas and Putnam counties.

Of the new confirmed cases Friday evening, 677 are Florida residents and 6 are non-Florida residents who were diagnosed or isolated in the state. Of the total statewide cases, 9,925 are Florida residents and 343 are nonFlorida residents.

Health officials say 1,334 people have been hospitaliz­ed because of COVID-19 complicati­ons.

Here are the Friday evening numbers for South Florida:

● Miami-Dade: 3,364 total confirmed cases, 25 deaths and 230 hospitaliz­ations. Patient age range is 0 to 101.

● Broward County: 1,598 total confirmed cases, 22 deaths and 190 hospitaliz­ations. Patient age range is 0 to 97.

● Palm Beach County: 858 total confirmed cases, 33 deaths and 133 hospitaliz­ations. Patient age range is 0 to 99.

● Florida Keys: 40 total confirmed cases, one death and seven hospitaliz­ations. Patient age range is 19 to 80.
