Car ends up in strange spot in Miami

A driver inspects his car in Miami near Churchill’s Pub. ‘The guy was screaming that he had just collected the car from the mechanic and was on his way home,’ a passerby said. ‘He said as he was making the turn, the steering wheel locked up on him and the brakes failed.’

Miami resident Mike Yansen couldn’t believe his eyes.

He was passing by Churchill’s Pub on Northyells east Second Avenue on Wednesday morning and saw a car suspended in air on the side street.

The driver was outside the light-colored sedan, yelling and cursing at someone on his phone.

“Look at this s---, bro!”

the driver incredulously while pointing to the bizarre sight and pacing.

Yansen’s video shows the car hanging, apparently caught on support wires for a power pole.

The sight is reminiscent of the police car affixed to the façade of the Biscayne Medical Plaza mere blocks away, left over from the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum. Or maybe a stunt scene for a “Fast & Furious” movie.

But this situation near the famed 40-year-old bar was unintentional.

“The guy was screaming that he had just collected the car from the mechanic and was on his way home,” reported Yansen. “He said as he was making the turn, the steering wheel locked up on him and the brakes failed.”

Cops ticketed the driver, and a tow truck hauled the car away.

“We responded to 202 NE 55th Terrace at approximately 10:40 a.m. on April 29 regarding a one-vehicle accident, where the vehicle went up the pole,” said a Miami Police spokeswoman. “It appears there were no injuries . ... The signal on the final call was not DUI related.”

Ian Michael, manager of Churchill’s, was unaware of the incident as the bar is closed under Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ stay-athome order amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Cars go speeding up and down that street all the time,” he told the Miami Herald. “I’m not surprised. But that’s quite a way to end up.”

Cars ending up at bizarre angles is looking like a trend. Could people actually be driving worse during the quarantine, with so many fewer people on the road?

About a mile south, at the Walgreens at 3103 Biscayne Blvd., a driver of a dark red sedan managed to park upright off the curb, resting on a railing outside a Blue Rhino propane tank.

Many people recorded video and some ended up on Only in Dade, naturally. A passerby took video as she was rolling up and said off camera, “This is the type of s--- that be happening during quarantine.”

John Villaruz said he was at the store and was shocked to see the awful parking job.

“I would describe their parking as a typical bad Miami driver,” he said. “They probably thought they put the car in reverse and was actually in drive and stepped on the accelerator.”
