Flyers soar on Hart’s second shutout in row
Carter Hart stopped 29 shots for his second consecutive shutout, Michael Raffl and Phil Myers each scored and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-0 on Tuesday to take a 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference playoff series.
It’s the fifth time in NHL history a goalie had backto-back postseason shutouts before age 23 and the first since Felix Potvin in 1994.
The top-seeded Flyers can wrap up the series in Game 5 on Wednesday. The Flyers haven’t advanced to the second round of the playoffs since 2012, made the Stanley
Cup Final since 2010 or won it all since 1975.
John Klingberg scored his first goal since the NHL's restart early in the third period, and the Dallas Stars held on for a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames in a crucial Game 5 of their Western Conference series.
● Elsewhere: Dale Hawerchuk, who followed a distinguished Hockey Hall of Fame playing career by becoming a successful junior coach and executive, died Tuesday, his son Eric announced via social media. Hawerchuk, 57, had been fighting a recurrence of stomach cancer.

In another restructuring move following the humiliating loss to Bayern Munich, Barcelona ended its contract with former player Eric Abidal, who as sports director clashed with Lionel Messi this year. Messi hit back at the sports director in February after Abidal publicly criticized the players’ efforts. … The first game of the French soccer season was postponed because of an outbreak of COVID-19 cases at Marseille, and will be played Sept. 16 or 17.
