WESTON’S ELECTION

-

Re the Nov. 20 Miami Herald online story “Biden won big in Weston. Here’s how a pro-Trump candidate became mayor:” The three candidates who won the nonpartisan election in Weston, supported by the GOP, won in part because all races had a third candidate who took away votes from the candidates backed by the Democratic Party.

The story’s understanding of the Weston United Facebook page is off-base. Weston United was formed by concerned citizens when the rezoning of the country club was being touted by a local developer.

In addition, the members of Weston United were not aware that Black Lives Matter Weston (BLMW) was a group that was made up of students from Cypress Bay High School (CBHS).

It came at a time when parts of our nation were experiencing protests and looting, and the announcement made by BLMW condoned that behavior. Concerned citizens were merely expressing that they would defend life, property and local businesses in the event such anarchy would come to our peaceful city.

The city did not dismiss BLMW’s concerns but directed them to take the matter up with CBHS administration or the school board.
