Van Noy nominated for sportsmanship award
The Dolphins’ Kyle Van Noy is among several NFL players with South Florida ties to be nominated for the seventh annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.
Each NFL team nominated one player for the award, which recognizes players who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field. It is named for the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr.
A panel of former players that includes Hall of Famer
Curtis Martin, Warrick Dunn, Karl Mecklenburg and Leonard Wheeler will select four finalists from each conference and they will be listed on the Pro Bowl ballot under the NFL Sportsmanship Award category when players vote on Dec. 18.
The winner will be announced as part of NFL Honors, when The Associated Press reveals its individual award winners. He will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.
Among the other nominees with local ties are:
Baltimore’s Calais Campbell (UM), Carolina’s Teddy Bridgewater (Miami Northwestern Senior High), Los Angeles Chargers’ Joey Bosa (St. Thomas Aquinas High); and former Dolphin Ryan Tannehill, now with Tennessee.

●Bengals: Cincinnati rookie quarterback Joe Burrow had knee surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, the team said Thursday. The Bengals said Burrow’s procedure on Wednesday “went as planned and he is expected to make a complete recovery.”
●Seahawks: Wide receiver Josh Gordon was reinstated by the NFL and will be eligible to play in the final two games of the regular season, the league announced. Gordon was indefinitely suspended last Dec. 16 by the league for violating policies on performance-enhancing drugs and substances of abuse.
Gordon, 29, was a first team All-Pro pick in 2013 with Cleveland when he had 87 receptions for 1,646 yards. But his career has been derailed by the suspensions, and he has played just 33 games since then.
