UM women fall to No. 20 Syracuse

Syracuse (4-0) led from the start, jumping out to an 9-0 lead on a Kamilla Cardoso layup off an assist from Tiana Mangakahia, who missed last season while battling breast cancer, undergoing eight rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Miami had no answer for Cardoso, a 6-7 center from Brazil. Cardosa scored 14 points with eight rebounds. Mangakahia finished with 14 points.

Because of the challenges presented by the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, the Sunshine State
Conference Presidents Council has decided to cancel conference competition and championships for the fall sports of soccer and volleyball and for the winter sport of swimming during the 2020-21 academic year. Locally, Barry University and Nova Southeastern are affected.
The Presidents Council has further postponed the start of the basketball season until at least Feb. 15, which will preclude participation in the conference will not participate in the 2021 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.
