Marilyn Freedman December 1, 2020

- Marilyn Freedman of Silver Spring, Maryland, age 92, passed away in early December. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from New York University (NYU). She relocated to south Florida and lived in Surfside for many years. While there she obtained a Master’s Degree from the University of Miami in Special Education. Most of her career was spent as a popular teacher at Biscayne Elementary School in Miami Beach where she worked alongside her friend and Principal, Harriet Glick. After retirement she moved to Pembroke Pines and ultimately to Silver Spring to be closer to family. Even after retiring and moving to Maryland she continued teaching, traveling to Florida for a portion of the school year. In her retirement she continued her love of travel and visited numerous states and countries including Europe, the Far East, and Scandinavia. She maintained her sense of adventure in retirement including white water rafting in the Tennessee mountains, snorkeling in the Florida Keys, and taking a helicopter trip to a remote glacier in Alaska. Most of all she was a loving mother and grandmother who cared deeply about her grandchildren. She is survived by her son David Freedman and wife Sherry of Marietta, Georgia; daughter Diane Sapir and husband Michael of Potomac, Maryland; grandchildren Lauren Freedman of Atlanta, Georgia; Eric Freedman of Atlanta, Georgia; Ethan Sapir of Brooklyn, New York (who lives just 10 minutes from where his grandmother lived as a young child) and Alex Sapir of Potomac, Maryland. While her heart no longer beats her memory lives on.
