DAYCARE EVICTION

-

The City of Miami

Beach is moving forward with plans to evict the Rainbow Intergenerational Childcare program from South Shore Community Center so it can raze the building and erect a new fire station.

The city decided to displace this program after it abandoned plans for two other sites due to community opposition.

Now, it is also abandoning its pledge to provide a location for the evicted program.

I urge the city commission to let the daycare program keep the South Shore Community Center. In so doing, the city will preserve a structure designed by world-renowned architect Morris Lapidus, whom Miami Beach named to its hall of fame in 2019 and created a historic district in his honor 10 years earlier.
