SAFER CRUISING

-

I look forward to the time when cruises begin again. But every potential cruiser remembers ships as floating petri dishes in the early days of the pandemic, and no one wants to expose themselves to that possibility.

The cruise lines are not stupid. They know what must be done to restore consumer confidence: limit the number of people on megaships; test crew and guests daily; limit excursions; and ensure guests and crew are vaccinated.

I understand why Gov. Ron DeSantis and local leaders want cruise lines to start operating again. However, they need to let the cruise lines establish best practices, including guest vaccination, to operate as safely as possible and make us want to get on the ships again. These must remain in place until there is herd immunity.

I, and any other sane cruiser, will only travel on cruise lines that make our safety as their No. 1 priority. The governor must hold our safety in this same regard.
