DUMBFOUNDED CARROT AND STICK

Re the May 2 letter “Hearing different:” This is symbolic of all that is wrong with the Republican Party today: it opposes everything the Biden administration is trying to do, calling it “socialist spending” with not a single idea of their own on how to solve the serious problems facing our country.

As Leonard Pitts reminded us in his May 2 column, “Can we talk? Apparently not. And, unfortunately, that’s just fine with me,” Republicans didn’t even bother with a policy platform in 2020.

Listen closely and all anyone can hear is ‘No’ coming from a broken Senate minority.

But the GOP still has the racist filibuster to protect it from Biden’s specific, detailed and on-point agenda, keenly centered on curing what ails us.

The GOP also has voter suppression and anti-riot legislation in many states, along with vote recounts by conspiracy mongers, to denude the opposition.

One way for the government to encourage some more of the hesitant to get vaccinated is to mandate that no hospital will treat anyone who has not received a COVID-19 vaccine. After the media reports about those who died or didn’t get treatment, we will get a more people willing to be vaccinated.

Perhaps Medicaid and other government programs should be withheld unless proof of vaccination is shown. The American taxpayer shouldn’t pay to provide medical care for COVID-19 to those who refuse to be vaccinated.

It is far less costly to pay for a vaccination than it is to treat a serious infection.
