BE NICE, TO A POINT

-

Leonard Pitts, Jr., in his July 21 opinion, “Democrats should ditch the nostalgia.

The union as we know it is not coming back,” nailed the best argument I have seen yet for eliminating, or at least modifying, the filibuster.

The Republican Party of Trump has, without question or doubt, destroyed the norms of democracy.

We teach our children to stand up to bullies. This does not mean we teach them to be hyper-aggressive and immediately confrontational.

When we experience a situation where we have tried in all ways to rationally and peacefully stopbullying behavior, and that behavior persists, we ultimately will need to stand toe-to-toe in defense of our ourselves, and in defense of our beliefs.
