Miami, Florida - Dr. Hugh S. Unger reunited with the love of his life Diane on July 22, 2021. Hughie, born to Dr. Louis and Lolly Unger in Brooklyn where he was a proud graduate of Madison High. He lived the American Dream where he proved hard work, dedication to patients, and being a good guy earned him respect everywhere. Known as a skilled diagnostic­ian, he was a founding orthopedic surgeon at Parkway General and later at Aventura Hospital, where he relished interactin­g with his colleagues at lunch. An avid sports fan and alumni of the University Tennessee VOLS as demonstrat­ed by his orange wardrobe. Locally he attended Hurricanes, Heat, and Dolphin games.

Dr. Hugh was an early Sports Medicine practition­er working as the Dolphins first Orthopedic Surgeon and the Miami Floridians’ doctor. He will be missed by his family, Jeff and Sheryl Unger, Adrienne and Howard Rosen, Ritchie Unger and his “adopted daughter” Robin Kadish and his machatunim Binnie and Kelvin Rosen. His four grandchild­ren loved and appreciate­d their Poppy’s humor - Ryan and Brandon Rosen; Zoe and Dara Unger. His sister-in-law Barbara Faller and the rest of the Faller family meant so much to him and trips to NYC to be with Noel, Craig, Samantha and their families was more than an annual pilgrimage. He was a long-time friend and tennis partner to many at the Monastery and Williams Island. Time with the extended Rosen, Rosenberg, Halpern, and Kovler families was always special. A service will be held Sunday, July 25 at 10:30 am at Lakeside Memorial Park 10301 NW 25th Street, Miami. Donations may be made to the Hal Rosenberg Memorial Fund at the David Posnack JCC or a charity of your choice.
