DISTANT EYES

-

Those of us who live in areas of the country where vaccinations rates are high and death statistics relatively low, watch in astonishment as Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis rails against masks, vaccination mandates, and ignores the tragic stories of parents who have died due to COVID-19, leaving young children orphans.

Some of these parents ignored getting vaccinated. This does not have to be.

DeSantis is, after all, vaccinated. Yet he chooses to preside over a deepening tragedy that he could reverse if only he was not betting that a run for president in 2024 will be enhanced by his intransigence.

I am not advising Floridians on how they should vote, but I am begging them to reverse their adherence to his obvious lies about the safety of a vaccine he has already received.

How they cannot see his mendacity as self-serving is beyond those of us who are watching an entire state at risk of avoidable death, all to benefit someone with the blood of those he was elected to serve on his hands.
