Why ice cream-like frozen desserts that went to 50 states and Puerto Rico were recalled

-

About 4,481 cases of frozen desserts sold under the Planet Oat brand have been recalled after a customer discovered a packaging boo-boo that can have serious consequences.

Planet Oak Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl NonDairy Frozen Dessert got packaged in a Planet Oat Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert container. Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl contains peanut. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough doesn’t, so the container doesn’t list peanut among the allergens inside. This is a problem to those with a peanut allergy.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the HP Hood-written, FDAposted recall notice states.

What’s recalled are 1-pint (16-ounce) containers of the above flavors, item No. 70986 for the Peanut Butter Swirl flavor and No. 70990 for the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor, best by date of 12/17/22. This information should be on the bottom of the containers.

The pints went to 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and St. Maarten.

If you have either of these recalled flavors and there’s absolutely no chance someone with a peanut allergy will eat it, continue consuming.

But, if there’s even a small chance someone with a peanut allergy will get into this, take it back to the store of purchase for a full refund.

If you have a question, call Hood at 800-242-2423, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Eastern time.
