Ronald Graham Higgins May 26, 2022

-

- Ronald Graham Higgins’ big heart gave out on May 26, 2022. He was 86 years old. Ron was born to Homes Handley Higgins and Ethelyn Francis Graham Higgins in Pensacola, Florida, and became a Bon Vivant Grovite. He moved to Coconut Grove after college at FSU and distinguished himself as a marketing guru with a knack for quirky promotions. Perhaps most enjoyable was his success with the Trojan brand, which involved T-shirts, caps and sky banners with slogans like “Accidents Cause People” and “Condoms Are Cheaper Than AIDS”. Ron had his own distinct style. His favorite word was “indubitably”, and his favorite joke is unpublishable. However, it was enjoyed by his many friends. For years he drove an antique Rolls Royce accompanied by his favorite companion, Max, the only dog allowed at the time to eat inside the Taurus Restaurant (hamburger medium served personally by the chef). Ron was predeceased by his lovely wife, Josie West-Higgins and his brother Graham Higgins. He lived out his remaining years at their home on Irvington Avenue known as “Seven Oaks”, where they so often had entertained a large, eclectic group of friends. Since Josie’s death, Ron received homecare from his “little brother” Bo Centeno, his wife Gloria, their daughters, Laura and Andrea. They brought daily gifts of love and joy to Ron’s last years. Ron is survived by his brother Louis Higgins (Rosalie), sister-in-law, Ann Higgins, niece Michelle Barraco, nephew Michael Higgins (Melissa), brother-in-law Arthur West (Judith), niece Elizabeth West Jenkinson (Michael), nephew Joseph West plus a large extended family and many friends. Our special appreciation to Dr. Bruce Kohrman for his patient and skillful care. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date.
